PNWDTA

Pacific Northwest Drill Team Association
Meeting Minutes
 February 5th, Albany, Oregon

The meeting was called to order at 2:15 by Gail Williams.  Minutes were passed out from the first meeting of PNWDTA as well as copies of the proposed By Laws.  Gail announced that we had two paid memberships—Cascade Cowgirls and Deanna Salisbury.  Two other teams—Western Express and Desperados—and Verna Dunar have also committed to joining, checks pending.  A British Columbia team has expressed interest as well as the Bitterroot Mountettes from Montana.  There was discussion from the others present about how they are trying to convince their teams to join, but it appears many are sitting back and waiting to see how it goes.

The By Laws were presented and corrections from the last meeting were noted.  Karla Valentine from CC Riders moved, seconded by the Sundancers, that the By Laws be accepted.  Motion carried.

The persons present agreed that Gail Williams(Western Express) will check into banks in Washington and Maria Haaby(Desperados) will check into banks in Oregon to open an account for the association.  They will try to get the best deal they can—hopefully an account with a small or no service charge.

Competition criteria was discussed.  Gail recommended that PNWDTA follow the OWDTA ( & WLRCA) Short Program this year.  Gail suggested that PNWDTA try to sponsor a competition this year.  This was discussed at length.  We all agreed that we wanted to do something, even if just for fun, to establish the association.  It was decided that we carry on the traditional drills—Freestyle, Short Program, Parade, and Team of Four.  It was decided that we would not do a Compulsory this year.  Gail suggested that we look at the Impromptu Drill.  This would mean drawing up maneuvers and sending them to the participating teams one week prior to the competition.  They would then have to perform a drill using these maneuvers.  No definite decision was made on this.

Locations were discussed.  Possible sites were:  Madras, Oregon; Prineville, Oregon; Moses Lake, Washington; The Dalles, Oregon.  (Goldendale, Washington was added later.)  After much discussion, it was decided that Karla and Troy from CC Riders would check on the two arenas at The Dalles, Oregon.  The dates discussed to see if the places were available were July 22 & 23, July 29 & 30, and August 19th.  July 29 may have a conflict with an invitational competition sponsored by Lisa Peterson in Albany, Oregon.

Gail read a note from Verna Dunar about the competition rules.  Ken from Desperados asked Gail who Verna and Susan were.  Gail explained to him that Verna was the owner of the Cyberider internet site and Susan Willis was the owner of the Flagriders internet site and that they had both offered their help in setting up the PNWDTA.

Cost for the competition was discussed.  The suggestion was made that teams pay $50 for the first event and $30 for each additional event they participated in.  It was mentioned that teams had to be members of PNWDTA to participate.  No motion was made.

Judges were discussed.  Cost is an issue here because of the current small membership.  It was mentioned that we could do what WLRCA did in the early years, and that was have one person from each participating team judge, using the WLRCA score sheets.  You would not judge your own team.  High and low scores could be thrown out and the others averaged.  Highest average would win.  It was also mentioned we could ask “veteran” judges to come and donate their time for this first year.  Gail also suggested that it be mentioned at the March WLRCA Judge’s Clinic to see if any of the new judges would like to use our competition for practice.
We would like any advertising prior to the competition to include the general public.

It was mentioned that Susan Willis had proposed to WLRCA and OWDTA that they obtain a domain registration for a name on the web.  It was decided that PNWDTA would like to also help pay for this domain registration.

Next meeting to be held in conjunction with the WLRCA Judge’s Clinic at the Oak Tree Restaurant in Woodland, Washington on March 18, 2000.  Time to be announced.

Meeting adjourned at 3:40 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Karla Valentine, CC Riders

Teams Represented:  Western Express, Desperados, CC Riders, Ridge Riders, Class Action, RC Riders, Sundancers
